Let me start off by saying that it is a rare day that I buy a cookbook. With the beauty of the internet, I regularly visit sites like allrecipes.com and kraftfoods.com. That usually scratches my recipe itch. Since I never follow recipes to the T anyway (I take the general idea from a recipe and turn it into my own), I find it quite a waste of money.
However, I used my Borders gift card last night on Jessica Seinfeld's new cookbook.
Weird, right?
Well, not necessarily. Her cookbook actually contains as much setup/prep work/basics information as it does recipes. And I really like the basic idea - mix healthy foods into not-so-healthy dishes to make them healthier! As I type this, I have sweet potatoes and butternut squash roasting in the oven, and I'm about to go get started steaming cauliflower and broccoli and spinach. Once everything is ready, I'll begin to puree and bag, and voila! I'll have a freezer full of nutrient-enrichers!
I'm all ready for my big start on Monday. The only thing I need to do is dig out my scale - I'm not sure where it is, so it'll be my #1 goal this weekend to find it.
Other than that, I'm set with healthy foods - Carnation Instant Breakfast shakes for breakfast, lowfat PB and lean chicken for lunches, and a lot of great foods for dinners! Plus good healthy snacks (Fiber One bars, baby carrots, 2% cheese, etc).
Here's to change - I'm ready!
